Save the Date! Enrollment for Fall 2020 (Online) Enrichment Classes opens 9/22 @ 7 PM

Make sure to set a reminder for Tuesday, 9/22 at 7 PM to enroll for Fall enrichment classes via Homeroom, our online enrichment portal. We’ve got a great line up of virtual enrichment activities this session, with plenty of new classes, plus old favorites that are guaranteed to delight students (and give tired parents some extra time to get work done, or practice some much needed self care)! View the Class List here.

Enrollment runs from Tuesday, September 22nd at 7 PM through Friday, September 25th at 5 PM. Course offerings (including days/times, fees and class descriptions) are currently available to view on Homeroom.

Fall enrichment classes will start on September 28th and run through December 11, 2020 (with a make-up week scheduled from December 14-18, 2020).  Classes will start at 3:30 PM (2:15 on Wednesdays) and run between 45 – 90 minutes in duration. Note: some classes may have earlier/later start dates or times, so please check the class schedule carefully. Fall enrichment classes are open to students in grades 1-5 only.  Kindergarten students are welcome to enroll starting Winter session. More details are available on the Enrichment page.

By choosing to enroll in a class through the GH Enrichment Program, you will be supporting our dedicated vendors, many of who are local, small businesses. Plus, a portion of each tuition goes to the PTA’s scholarship fund to allow for all GH students to take enrichment classes, regardless of financial ability.

Enrichment Classes Going Online for Spring Session!

The following classes will be offered ONLINE so that students can continue to take virtual enrichment classes during the school closure:

  • Tuesdays: Boom Dance Exploration K-3, Mandarin K-3, Chess 2-5 (new day for online classes only)
  • Wednesdays: Game Development (Int/Adv) 2-5, Jump Rope 1-5
  • Thursdays: Minecraft Server Modding 3-5, Tae Kwon Do K-3* (starts April 9th)

If your student is looking for fun and creative activities in the afternoon after a long day of homeschooling, I’d highly recommend giving one or more of these online classes a try.  In particular, Jump Rope and Drawing & Painting Exploration are both terrific classes, plus very good value! Not sure about if online classes are a good fit for your student? All classes have a satisfaction guarantee so your student take a trial class for free. There are still spots available for all online classes, so please contact the Enrichment Coordinator as soon as possible to enroll before the session starts on March 30th!

March Volunteer of the Month – Lisa McGinty

Congratulations to Lisa McGinty

Lisa is new to our school this year having moved back to West Seattle after five years away in California and Michigan.  They moved back this Summer and Lisa hit the ground running.

I first met Lisa at our VERY first volunteer opportunity helping fill back to school packets.  And she hasn’t stopped since.  She is a constant contributor at our school, helping in big and small ways sharing her talents and skills with our lucky students.

January Volunteer of the Month

Congratulations to Noirin Lynch, our January Volunteer of the Month.

Noirin has been such a helpful volunteer at school.  We are so thankful to her contributions here at Genesee Hill.  When asked to comment on her contributions to our school, here’s what just a handful of folks had to say:

“Noirin is amazing! She is always available and willing to go above and beyond whenever I’ve asked her for help. Noirin gives up her time to come and help in the classroom and also comes in each week and supports the art teacher during our art lessons. Noirin has come in and done amazing art projects with the class not only donating her time, but supplies too. She also will make and donate games that she has made that support the curriculum. She is thoughtful, kind and the kids and I are lucky to have her!”
Mrs. Marroquin
“Noirin didn’t hesitate for a moment when I asked if she could help coordinate the flag ceremony for our November assembly.  She worked directly with her daughter’s Girl Scout troop and the group leader for Boy Scouts.  Because of her efforts, the flag ceremony went off without a hitch.” Mr Della Pella

She teaches Genius Hour – Kitchen Chemistry for 1st grade

She organizes the lost and found/coat donation for the office

She’s room parent for Ms. Williams (3rd grader – Akemi Sheibley is her daughter) this year

Last year, she was room parent for Ms Henderson (Kinder – Quinn Sheibley) and Ms Fraizer (2nd grader – Akemi)

She’s also on the Cohort Coordinator Team for 3rd grade this year,  2nd grade last year

Staff Appreciation Week help and coordination

She leads a girl scout troop

Wow – that’s alot of hard work and dedication. Thanks Noirin

Congratulations and thank you for all of hard work, Noirin! Enjoy your dedicated parking spot in front of the school for a month!

JUST ADDED! Jr. Robotics & Robotics for Winter Enrichment

We have just added two new Robotics classes to the enrichment class schedule for Winter session. These classes will be offered on Wednesdays and taught by BEAM Experiences/Bricks4Kidz (beamexperiences.com).

  • Jr Robotics K-2 (Wednesdays, 1:15 – 2:30 PM, $235/session – 9 classes): BEAM Experiences uses the popular Bricks 4 Kidz Jr. Robotics curriculum, teaching students how to turn their next LEGO creations into a robot, programmed to do exactly what they tell it to do! This offers all the fun of building with LEGO Bricks, plus the challenge of computer programming. Using drag-and-drop, icon-based WeDo software provides an introduction to the world of programming and robotics that will equip children to succeed in a technology-based marketplace. BEAM encourages students to think creatively while experimenting with Cubelets. This fun, action-packed class combines real life skills with real kid fun! Class limit: 10.
  • Robotics 3-5 (Wednesdays, 2:30 PM – 3:45 PM, $235/session – 9 classes) : Unleash the creative powers of the hands-on LEGO® MINDSTORMS EV3 by building robots that can race, dodge walls, and complete obstacle courses! The aim of this course is to have students utilize their critical and creative thinking skills by building robots that they design and program. Students will physically piece together logic with modular building blocks, build circuits, and discover how robotic creations operate in today’s world. Although this course heavily uses Mindstorms EV3, students will learn how a variety of robots are built using the latest cutting-edge systems. Class limit: 10.

Enrollment for these classes will open tomorrow (Thursday, 12/13) at 9 AM.  The enrollment deadline for these classes will be extended to 12/21 at 5 PM.
