2020-2021 Genesee Hill PTA Board Members
(July 1, 2020 - June 30, 2021)
Co-President Michelle Comazzetto
I have been part of the Genesee Hill community for the past 6 years, along with my two children, Juliet (6th Grade at Madison) and Leo (3rd Grade) with my husband, Ryan. I was born and raised in a small town in New Hampshire and moved to Seattle 20 years ago. I love all that the Pacific Northwest has to offer, and my family enjoys spending time outdoors camping and bike riding. I work full-time as a construction project manager, and being a PTA Board member allows me to volunteer for the school outside of the normal workday. I am excited to be part of this year’s PTA Board as a Co-President, and will focus this year on enhancing and building stronger connections with our school families and teachers.
Co-President Scot Duffield
Secretary Merrick Bodmer
Hello Genesee Hill Community! My name is Merrick Bodmer and I’m the secretary for the PTA. I have three children at Genesee Hill in grades 5, 2 and Kindergarten. Although I grew up in New York and attended college in California, I have lived in West Seattle for almost 14 years and love this community so much! I work as an elementary school librarian at Cascadia Elementary School in north Seattle. I have learned a lot as a PTA board member, but continue to learn more every day. When I’m not doing things school related, I love to read, garden, travel and cheer on the Sounders. I look forward to building community that welcomes all of our wonderful familes.
Fundraising Chair Tracy Smid
Hello Genesee Hill Families! This is my first year on the PTA and I am excited about taking on the role as Fundraising Chair for the 2020-2021 school year. My husband, myself our 3rd grader and my eldest adult son transplanted here from the suburbs of Chicago 7 years ago. At first we lived on the eastside but very quickly found that West Seattle was where we wanted to call home. We love the active, diverse and inspiring people that we have come to know. I work in sales in the insurance industry and my husband works for the city of Seattle. In our spare time we love to hike, go on day adventures and camp. Being on the PTA helps me give back to the community that I am proud to be a part of. This year will be bring on a whole series of new and unexpected challenges. I know that together the Genesee Hill community will work together thru these issues and thrive!
Communications Co-Chair Amy Leiboh
Growing up on the Oregon Coast, I have always been a Pacific Northwesterner at heart. While our family (Pearl 6, Benjamin 9, Lewis 41) has moved around considerably, we are grateful to have permanently landed in West Seattle. I have worked in education for the past 18 years, as a title 1 teacher, instructional coach, and director of teaching and learning. I currently work part-time for an equity-centered educational technology company. As PTA Communications Co-Chair I am excited to work to cultivate a warm and inclusive school community through welcoming communication.
Communications Co-Chair Leigh Ann Johnson
I am so excited to be taking on the roll of Communications Co-Chair. My two daughters will both be at Genesee this year, in 3rd grade and Kindergarten. I grew up in St. Paul, MN, but have lived in Seattle for twenty years now. My background is in both elementary education and backpack and luggage design. My passions are the outdoors, photography, activism, gardening, and fiber arts. I’m most looking forward to being involved in the PTA’s work around building community and increasing equity and inclusion in our school and district.
Legislative Chair Victoria Brown Bhegani
Hello! I’m doing the legislative role for the PTA this year. My roots are PNW/ Eastern Canada, English/French speaking, Canadian/ American, so I get duality! My family, which is also bi-racial, has called beautiful WS home for four years and the community here is one of my favorite things about about this place. My background is in post-secondary education and academic English. I care a lot about equity in education and schools being equitably funded and look forward to advocating for the PTA in these areas. I love laughing with friends, gardening, hiking, reading and writing young adult fiction.
Membership Chair Dave Conway
I am excited to be part of the dedicated PTA team this year. This is my first year on the Board and as the Membership Chair, I am hoping to support the important work the PTA performs as well as be an advocate for parents and teachers in the Genesee Hill community. My wife and I have three daughters at Genesee Hill, a 3rd grader and two 1st graders, all of whom have different abilities. So far, we have had a great experience at the school and within our community. I am originally from Upstate New York. We moved to West Seattle in 2009 and do not have plans to leave. I work for the City of Seattle and am passionate about public service. I try to spend most of my free time with my family but I also enjoy golf, disc golf, and bike riding with friends.
Cohorts Chair Dawn Franklin
My husband, Jeff, and I are excited to have all four of our children in SPS this year: Marley (7th @Madison), Amelia (5th), Sam (2nd), and Rose (K). I strongly value and believe in our public school system. I taught elementary school in the Renton School District for seven years and was heavily involved in my school’s PTA as a teacher rep during that time. Currently, I am a Parent Education Instructor for South Seattle College Co-op Preschools. I enjoy hiking, reading, and teaching group fitness classes. I’m looking forward to helping our community find ways to connect with one another this year.
Treasurer Greg Deviny
Hello Genesee Hill! I am in my second year as Treasurer and looking forward to making the most of these unusual times. My wife was one of the founders for the Dandelion initiative and together we have a lot of passion for education. We have two children, a 4th grader and Kindergartner, and one holds the distinction of being the first child to break a bone on school property. I was born and raised in Seattle and had two stints outside of the area, one in California for undergraduate school, and another in Washington DC for graduate school. In my free time, I love to bike, woodwork, and travel.
Vice Treasurer Neil Strohbusch
I’m looking forward to this unique year at Genesee Hill. I am in my second year as Vice Treasurer. My daughters Audrey (4th Grade) and Norah (2nd Grade) have benefited from the great teachers they’ve had and all of the community support. I am very appreciative of our community, the teachers and administration, and the consistent focus on doing right for our kids.
Vice Treasurer John Glick
Equity Chair Kristen Corning Bedford
I’m excited to fill the new position of Equity Chair on the PTA this year, after co-chairing the Family Committee for Equity and Inclusion the last two years. I have one child in 3rd grade and one who just graduated from 5th, and I’ve been involved in a variety of volunteer roles throughout our years here. I was born and raised in Seattle, and with my husband, Slade, moved to Bellingham and Tacoma before moving back and making West Seattle our home a decade ago. I’m passionate about creating community and innovating a more just and ethical future, and I look forward to continuing to build a welcoming and inclusive school community at Genesee Hill.
Teacher Representative Erin Munavu
I’m excited to serve as one of the teacher reps on the PTA for the 3rd year in a row. This is my fourth year teaching first grade at Genesee (and my tenth year of classroom teaching).
