Here you’ll find a list of available camps and other children’s activities available from local businesses and enrichment program providers to Schmitz Park students.  If you are a local business specializing in children’s camps, music education, and other opportunities for school age children and want to share your post with the Schmitz Park Community, please contact secretary@schmitzparkpta.org.

Lee’s Martial Arts (lmawestseattle.com):

Tae Kwon Do Martial Arts Camp: This camp has been a favorite for over a decade. It includes: Tae Kwon Do, board breaking, acting games, bowling party, ice cream social, kickboxing, kids self-defense, fire safety, dodge ball, speaking Korean — and much more.  For ages 4.5 to 12 years old.

Playhouse NW Acting School:

On-Camera Acting Camp for Kids 101: This introductory camp (101) will encourage your children (ages 7 and up) to use their imagination and to develop the techniques and confidence they need to create believable performances for the camera. This camp teaches the fundamentals of acting by using basic techniques and fun acting games. Children participate in class and work on improving their basic skills for auditions, improvisation, martial arts/fight choreography, Meisner technique and scene study. This camp prepares students for On-Camera Acting Camp for Kids 102 (Movie Camp).

When: Aug. 22-26, 9:00 AM-3:30 PM (Doors open at 8:45 AM; after care available upon request)

 On-Camera Acting Camp For Kids 102 (Movie Camp)
By the end of the week, all of our students will have the opportunity to demonstrate the skills they have learned by going into the second week (102) and participate in their very own short film production. This student production will be cast, written, rehearsed, taped and edited. Professional writers, directors and make-up artists will be involved, as well as the film and television students from Central Washington University’s film school. The kids production will be screened at a local theater or venue at a later date for their friends and family to enjoy.

About the instructor: Lisa Skvarla is the founder of Playhouse Northwest Acting School. She is a SAG/AFTRA actor and a certified stunt person. She has appeared on numerous national television shows including “Northern Exposure,” “Bill Nye the Science Guy,” “Case Closed” and the Discovery Channel’s “The Worst Thing That Ever Happened to Me.” She also has appeared in numerous commercials, industrials, web series and theater productions. Currently she is the executive producer for a three-season web series, “Divine Shadows,” that started filming in April 2015. In addition, Lisa is a fourth-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and the proud owner of Lee’s Martial Arts in West Seattle. For three years she served as the chairwoman for the American Women’s Self-Defense Association and has taught self-defense and rape prevention to women and girls across the country.
