11/5/17 – Southgate Skating

When: Sunday, November 5th, 1-4:30pm
Where: Southgate Skating, 9646 17th  Ave SW, White Center
How: $8 per skater/includes skate rental,
Donations: If possible, please bring a coat (new or gently used, up to size 14) or package of diapers to donate to Westside Baby.

Kids are encouraged to wear Schmitz Park/Genesee Hill gear (fox logo, Move-A-Thon, Passport) to help them recognize each other. Southgate also offers skating lessons from 12 – 1 pm for an additional $2.

Celebration of Learning

Monday, June 5th, 2017

When: 6:30pm – 8pm

Where: Genesee Hill Elementary School

Please join the 4th Grade students, families, and teachers on Monday evening, June 5th for a Celebration of Learning and potluck taking place from 6:30-8:00! Students will be sharing their Historical Fiction projects as well as a song/dance they’ve been working on with Ms. Bronson and Ms. Lew. Students should arrive promptly at 6:30 wearing the costume they are designated to wear by the specialist team.

Here is our timeline for the evening:

6:30 – Students/families arrive, drop off potluck food at buffet tables

6:30 – Students stand next to their displayed work on the 1st and 2nd floor hallways, families enjoy viewing the displayed work. Students stay with their work during this period.

7:00 – Students head down to potluck to eat first at tables in cafeteria.

7:10 – Families head down to potluck.

7:30 – Students head to classrooms to wait for classroom performances to start (Herk/Cook/Music rooms), adults can help with clean-up of potluck.

7:40-8:00 – Performance

Save the Date – Alki Beach Bonfire

Sunday, May 21, 2017

When: 6:00-8:00pm

Where: Alki Beach (We plan to set up by Pepperdock. We will be on the beach somewhere between there and the East side of the beach (towards downtown). We will send out an email on May 21 with the specifics on the location.

What to bring: Beach chairs or a blanket and your families.

What to expect: S’mores!!! The s’mores making materials will be provided. We will hang out on the beach, play and have fun!


Flashlight Tag and Potluck

We’re located right by Schmitz Park Elementary, on Hinds Street.

When: 6:30pm – 9:30pm

What to bring: a potluck item to share and a flashlight
Last names starting with
A-D: bring dessert
E-L: bring side dish
M-S: bring main dish
T-Z: bring drinks

What to expect: we’ll hang out, enjoy food and drinks while the kids run and play. Since we’re near the school, the kids can hang out at the school playground and let out some energy. Bring flashlights for a fun game of tag in the dark. If it’s not dark enough, we’ll adjust.

Roller Skating and Westside Baby Collection

Good Neighbor Cookie Delivery

We want to say “thanks” to our new Genesee Hill neighbors by providing cookies/goodie bags and delivering them to families who live in the homes surrounding the school. It’s a big change having all of the cars and kids taking over their streets and sidewalks before and after school.  Event details soon!

S’mores on the Beach

We are coming to the close of another school year already. Since the weather has been so nice we thought our last event as third grade families should be s’mores on the beach. So please plan to join us at Alki beach on the 22nd!

Northwest Harvest Community Service Event

We were able to reserve spots for 13 youth and 12 adults (or more kid slots if an adult can chaperone your child, up to 25 people total for Schmitz Park). This event is only for 3rd graders and their parent/chaperone, sorry no siblings.
They are asking volunteers to arrive 10 minutes early (4:50pm), and they will start at 5pm sharp (if you arrive later they told us you may be turned away). After signing up, I will email you their detailed permission slip (if you are chaperoning), volunteer rules and directions they asked us to distribute to volunteers.

Star Party

Seattle Astronomical Society (SAS) is hosting a Star Party at Green Lake on SAT April 25th from 8-11p. It is free and open to public. If it’s cloudy and rainy, the event will be cancelled. Yes it’s a bit past kids bedtime, but it’s a weekend and an adventure awaits as you cross the bridge….

Skate Night

It was so fun last time, we are doing another skate night at Southgate Roller Rink in White Center. This is a family social, and an adult needs to be present with his/her child. You are encouraged to bring your own water bottle and snack or purchase items at the snack bar. Skate rental is $7.50 per person.

If people are inclined, we can head to Full Tilt afterwards (5 min away in White Center) for some delicious ice cream.


Parents Night Out

Parents of 3rd graders are invited to join us for a night out at Mission Restaurant (located in Admiral). We will meet upstairs in the lounge area where apps will be served.

With the holiday season behind us, we hope you can make it and have a chance to reconnect with other Schmitz Park parents. This is adult only, so time to find a sitter. We hope to see you there!

Fremont Players Performance – CANCELED

Due to a blizzard of holiday conflicts, the Hale’s Palladium show on December 13 will no longer be an officially sanctioned cohort event. We do, however, strongly encourage you to gather friends and family to see the Fremont Player’s Holiday Panto at the Palladium. Find out more and purchase tickets at: www.fremontplayers.com.


Parents Night Out

The 3rd grade cohort is hosting a social for parents at Duos Restaurant and Bar (located on Avalon Way near Luna Park) on Wednesday, November 5 at 7pm.

Duos offers half-price wine on Wednesdays.

Skate Night

Friday, October 10, 6-8 pm (Please note, there is no school this day.)
Southgate Roller Rink

The rental price for skates is $6.50. An adult needs to be present with his/her child, this is not drop off.
It would be good idea to eat dinner before coming to this event. Please remember to bring snacks and water bottle if needed.
